AUCTION RECAP (Vintage Sport Watches) Antiquorum

While the MB&F HM2 and Maîtres du Temps Chapter Two were the most interesting of the modern watches to sell in Hong Kong over the weekend cheap coach bags, the most interesting vintage piece was not from Rolex or Patek, but rather a continuation of a spectacular (or spectacularly frustrating) rise in value - depending, of course coach factory store, which side of the buy/sell equation you reside.  The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref 5402 "A-Series" is a watch we've discussed before.  It is one of the most important sport watches in the world, and last time we showed you one for sale, it set a record price at auction of about $23 coach outlet online,750.

But, for now, the A-Series Royal Oak remains one of the most interesting stories in the vintage watch world - a watch that has seemingly doubled in value in one year's time.  To see lot details of this record-setting Royal Oak, click here.

This past saturday, that record was broken when A-Series number 745 sold for 212,500 HKD, or over $27,000. This time last year coach bags outlet coach outlet online, these watches were selling regularly for around $13,000 (see AQ May 2010).   One can assume this run on the early RO's is due to the looming 40th anniversary of the model to be seen at SIHH 2012.

What is most interesting is how these early Royal Oaks are just as, if not more valuable than early Patek Philippe Nautilus models - a watch that has historically been a much stronger seller.  The last vintage Nautilus Ref 3700/1A sold on June 8th in London for 16,800 GBP, or roughly $26,828, and that included the original cork box!  Of course cheap coach bags, one has to imagine the Nautilus will benefit from the same run in four years when it reaches its fourth decade.
